Where Is the Body of Jesus Today?
What Scripture Says About Jesus’ Body After the Resurrection
Jesus Died and Rose Again
After His crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day. The Bible says He appeared to His disciples and others over a period of 40 days.
Acts 1:3 tells us: "To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God."
But where did His physical body go after this?
Jesus’ Body Ascended to Heaven
The Bible teaches that Jesus’ physical body ascended to heaven. Acts 1:9-11 describes this event:
"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
This passage confirms that Jesus’ physical body left earth and is now in heaven.
Jesus’ Body Is Glorified in Heaven
The Bible also tells us that Jesus’ body is glorified in heaven. Mark 16:19 states:
"So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God."
Additionally, Hebrews 4:14 explains His role in heaven: "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession."
His glorified body is part of His ongoing ministry as High Priest and King.
Jesus Will Return in His Body
Scripture promises that Jesus will return in the same glorified body. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 says:
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first."
Revelation 1:7 adds: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."
These verses affirm that Jesus’ body is in heaven, awaiting His return to earth.
Jesus’ Body Offers Hope to Believers
The Bible teaches that Jesus’ resurrection and ascension provide hope for all believers. His physical body ascended to heaven and remains glorified there.
One day, He will return in that same body to fulfill God’s promises. For Christians, this truth brings assurance of eternal life and a future resurrection.
