Seeing Through God’s Eyes on Race and Equality
Understanding DEI and How God’s Word Defines True Equality for All
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs have been a cornerstone of corporate America for years. Yet, recent news shows a shift. Companies like Ford, Walmart, and others are terminating these programs.
Why is this happening?
And what does this mean for us as believers in God’s Word?
God does not see color or race. He created each of us in His image, and His love for us is not based on our skin color, gender, or nationality.
Let’s explore why performance and character—not identity—should guide our lives and workplaces.
DEI programs and their unintended consequences
At first glance, DEI programs appeared to promote fairness by ensuring everyone had equal opportunities. They aimed to eliminate barriers and encourage inclusivity in hiring and promotions.
However, many of these programs focused too much on external characteristics like race or gender instead of true merit and performance. This created division, making some people feel excluded rather than included.
When we look at others solely through the lens of race or identity, we lose sight of their humanity—the very thing God values most.
Corporate America is now rethinking DEI strategies
Recent layoffs of DEI executives signal a cultural shift. Companies like Ford, Walmart, and others are concluding that these initiatives, while well-intentioned, do not align with their long-term goals. Performance, innovation, and character are being prioritized over fulfilling quotas.
This change reflects a broader understanding: forcing diversity doesn’t always create unity. Real unity comes from seeing others as brothers and sisters in Christ, recognizing their unique talents and abilities, and treating everyone with respect and dignity.
God’s perspective on race and equality
God does not judge by outward appearances.
The Bible reminds us, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
Our value is not determined by skin color, gender, or other external traits but by our character, actions, and relationship with God.
In God’s eyes, we are all brothers and sisters. He calls us to love one another without prejudice. When companies prioritize fairness based on performance and merit, they reflect a biblical principle: work hard, do your best, and treat everyone with respect.
Unity is found in Christ, not programs
DEI programs often divide people into categories, emphasizing differences rather than commonalities. Yet, Galatians 3:28 says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
God unites us as one family. In the workplace and beyond, we are called to reflect His love by focusing on what truly matters: a person’s integrity, skills, and contributions—not their identity.
Parting words
The decline of DEI programs in corporate America reminds us of an important truth: fairness comes from judging people by their performance and character, not their race or gender.
As believers, we reject racism and discrimination, but we also reject programs that divide people. God calls us to unity, to treat one another with love and respect, and to see beyond appearances.
We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Our value is found in Him—not in the labels the world places on us. Let’s carry this truth into every area of our lives, including our workplaces, and reflect God’s love in everything we do.
