Jesus was never content to let people remain lost. In Luke 15, He tells three beautiful parables to illustrate God's heart for the lost: the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son.
Each story paints a picture of someone searching diligently or waiting patiently until what was lost is found.
And when it is found, there is always celebration.
The Lost Sheep
The parable of the lost sheep is perhaps the most vivid. Jesus asks His audience a pointed question:
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?" (Luke 15:4).
When the shepherd finds that sheep, there is no scolding, no anger—only joy. He lifts the sheep onto his shoulders and invites his friends to celebrate:
"Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep!" (Luke 15:6).
This is the heart of Jesus. He celebrates when even one person returns to Him.
The Lost Coin
The lost coin, however, is a different story. Unlike the sheep that wandered away or the prodigal son who knowingly left, the coin is simply lost in darkness. It doesn’t even know it’s lost.
That’s the tragic reality for many people today. They live in darkness without even realizing it. They are so caught up in the noise and distractions of the world that they don’t see their need for a Savior. Yet Jesus searches for them with the same urgency as the woman searching for her lost coin. And when they are found, heaven erupts in celebration.
The Prodigal Son
Then there’s the prodigal son—a story most of us know well. He knew he was lost. He made the conscious decision to leave his father and waste his inheritance. But when he finally came to his senses and returned home, his father didn’t just accept him back quietly. He threw a massive celebration.
That’s how Jesus responds to us when we return to Him. Whether we are like the sheep who wandered, the coin lost in darkness, or the son who knowingly rebelled, Jesus celebrates when we come home.
Sometimes we think God will meet us with disappointment or anger when we’ve messed up. But that’s not who He is. Jesus delights in restoring what is lost. He rejoices over each of us as though we are the only one.
If you’ve ever felt far from God, know this: He is searching for you, longing to bring you back into the light. And when you return, it won’t just be a quiet reunion—it will be a celebration. Heaven will rejoice because you are home.
I was lost for so long. After witnessing the World around Me. I couldn't shake that something is very wrong and that I'm missing something. After looking inward, even though painful. In that We see the mistakes We have made. I started dealing with these things. Furthermore, I couldn't ignore the internal struggle and feelings I was having. I've asked for forgiveness and walk with the Lord again. Our Father has a plan for Us, I have faith in that. Thank You for posting here. I'm very glad I've found this sub. God Bless You All. 🙏
Yes and Amen!🙏🏽 Thank you for sharing this and the encouragement it gives me to keep looking for God’s divine appointments!🤙🏽
